» ANNOUNCEMENT
On November 17, 1998, the United States District Court for the Northern
District of California issued a preliminary injunction against Microsoft Corporation
requiring Microsoft to comply with its license agreement for Sun's Java
technology. The court ordered Microsoft to ship Sun-compatible Java implementations
and to remove Microsoft-only Java extensions from Internet Explorer 4.0 and
Visual J++ 6.0.
Sun Microsystems filed suit against Microsoft in October 1997 alleging breach of
its Java license. We are pleased that the court has recognized the importance of
preserving the «write once, run anywhere» promise of Java for developers
and users worldwide.
