October 1998 — Harvard faculty and researchers gather for the annual Faculty of Arts and Sciences convocation as the academic year commences. President Neil L. Rudenstine addresses the incoming class on the responsibilities of scholarship in a changing world.
September 1998 — The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics continues analysis of data from the Hubble Space Telescope, contributing to groundbreaking research on distant galaxies and the structure of the early universe.
August 1998 — Harvard Medical School announces new research initiatives in genomics as the Human Genome Project, a major international collaboration, continues to advance toward a working draft of the human genome sequence.
June 1998 — Harvard Law School graduates its Class of 1998. Commencement ceremonies were held in Harvard Yard, with addresses from distinguished faculty and alumni in government, law, and public service.

Undergraduate Admissions
Harvard College offers a four-year undergraduate program in the liberal arts and sciences. The College admits approximately 1,650 students each year from a highly competitive international applicant pool. Harvard is committed to need-blind admissions and provides generous financial assistance to students and families who qualify.
Applications for the Class of 2003 are now being accepted. The Early Action deadline is November 1, 1998. Regular Decision applications are due January 1, 1999.
