Half-Life Review: Valve Reinvents the First-Person Shooter
Score: 10/10 -- This review does not get any better.
Half-Life is a perfect video game. No, that is not hyperbole. There is nothing
to critique here that isn't a minor nitpick. Valve Software has achieved something
remarkable: a shooter that respects player intelligence, tells a compelling story
without a single cutscene, and delivers combat so finely tuned that every encounter
feels like a puzzle. Gordon Freeman's wordless journey through Black Mesa is the
most cinematic experience gaming has ever produced. This is the game by which all
future PC shooters will be judged. If you do not own Half-Life, you are missing the
best game made for the personal computer. Full stop.
