Global Markets Tumble Amid Asian Crisis Fears

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Stock markets in the U.S. and Europe plunged sharply on Thursday as new economic data from Asia stoked fears of a widening regional recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 200 points in early trading.

"Investors are extremely jumpy," noted one Wall Street analyst. "The situation in overseas markets is creating a domino effect that is finally washing onto American shores."
